Trying out Streets

Inspiration op the puppet

Sixth Week

This week we have presented our own poster and seen the presentations of the other groups and their posters. Alex Visser and Maarten Wijntjes have been giving comments on the posters. Overal they liked the feel the our poster gave especially traslation of the maps we found as inspiration. But we needed to work more on the navigation on the route and the theorie of the book. Alex Visser also did not like the foot steps we placed here and there. In the next week we will be finalizing our concept. To do this we will be experimenting more with the 3-D effect we wanted to create and experimenting with size, colour and position some more.

The Poster

The Museum Route

The Shopping Route

Aspects

The posters present the map with the different places that can be viseted. It should look like the buildings are drawed on paper and cut out and then glued onto the map. We still need to put in a puppet that is walking through delft. The pink footsteps should subtle show the direction of the route. We still need to play with some size and colour elements.

Fith Week

For the lucture this week someone from Buro Mijksenaar came to talk about the things they do in their company of information design. The second lecture was from Huib de Ridder and he wanted to talk about narratives in chapter 6 of Visual Thinking. However he did nog get the time to end his lecture because of the fire drill. In this week we also made a start for the second assignment! We experimented and played with some different ways to make something more clear and obvious.

Black & White vs. Color

Blur vs. Sharp

Forth Week

This week in the lecture of Huib de Ridder chapter 5 of Visual Thinking was discussed. It was about depth interpertation. In the second lecture the posters that were created were discussed in groups with Frans van Mourik. We also made a start with reading the second assignment. And tried to find some inspiration.

Anne Streef - Narrative

The idea behind the poster was to create two different stories, which take place in the past and in the present. The abstract shape of the train implies a sort of movement from the past to the future. The irritations, frustrations and confusing of the past will be disappearing in the future. But the traveller needs to be patient!

Lysanne van der Voort - Color

With this poster the difference between the negative, current situation and the positive, future station is shown with the use of colour. The current situation is shown only by black and white pictures on the background to enhance the negative expression. By placing the images of the future station with colours in the front it will get the attention and show that it will become fantastic. The colour bleu as background of the two pictures is chosen to enhance the notion of the ‘Spoorplan’ Delft with the positive results for the rail station and Delft.

Caressa Fooy - Structure

The title of this poster says ‘Peace’. The poster has to convince the audience of the restfulness of the new park that is built on top of the new railway. I tried to enhance the violence of the railway with a heavy texture. The peaceful texture I used for the trees and groves should enhance the peace and quietness in the park. The composition of the poster should indicate that the quiet park is covering up the railway. This effect is also strengthened by the specific use of colour.

Lotte de Reus - 3D Perspective

In this poster the past with al the construction is placed on the background. The focus is on the future station that is placed in the front. The eyes should focus on the future, travel back tot the past over the path and then travel back over the path to the future again.

Third Week

In this week we have been very busy with the creation of the posters. Because of the hectic schedule we have been making posters and sending them over the email to get some feedback. After feedback from the group posters were adjusted and so on. The posters are still being worked on but are already looking quite good. Before this friday they will be done and posted on this blog.

Second Week

In this second week we have attended two lectures. The first one was from Jeroen van Erp that is the director of Fabrique design office. He came to show us some interesting graphical projects he has been working on the past few years. The second lecture was about the third and fourth chapter of the book Visual Thinking by Colin Ware. In this we also started with the assignment. We choose a sender and a receiver for the poster and divided the different aspects to every group member. Below is some more insight into the sender, receiver and the message we want to bring with to poster.

The Sender: Gemeente Delft who is putting a lot of effort, time and money into this project. They are enthusiastic about the project and its advantages. They are looking forward to the new Train Station that will be created.

Receiver : Inhabitants of Delft who only see the sort term consequences of the rebuilding of the Delft station which are purely negative valued. They are irritated by the fact that it brings so much trouble and they are not aware of the advantages the project will bring along in the future.

Message: Show the advantages of the rebuilding for the future of Delft. In this way Delft will come along with the big cities in Holland and will be prepared for a growth from a village into a big city. Convince the people of Delft that the result of the new plan is worth their irritation and waiting. Enlarge their patience and create a positive feeling instead of a negative feeling concerning the complete mess and rebuilding of the area.

Caressa will be working with the subject of composition, structure and grouping in 2D. Color will be the main subject for the poster of Lysanne. Lotte's poster will be focused on the Third Dimension and Visual Narrative will be the main subject in the poster of Anne.

Now it is time to dive into the literature and lectures and start creating posters that will bring the message.
